About Me
As a Visual Effects Supervisor, Creative Director, and Academic Leader with over 25 years of experience, I specialize in bridging high-end industry production with academic innovation. I have a proven track record of leading large-scale distributed teams of 100–400+ artists and technologists to deliver award-winning content for global brands and platforms like Netflix.
My executive leadership experience spans across multiple international ventures, including serving as the Founder and Executive Director of Abduct Studios (2015–2026), where I built production pipelines integrating Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine, and managed operations across the US, Brazil, and Mexico. Previously, I also served as Executive Director for Novo Tempo Television and Netsun Technologies.
At the cutting edge of real-time graphics and immersive technologies, I currently serve as a Professor of Practice and Virtual Reality Researcher at Clemson University. My focus includes AI-integrated creative workflows, XR/AR development, and mentoring the next generation of MFA and MS graduates.
I am a proud member of the Visual Effects Society (VES) and have served as a VES Awards Judge since 2018.

I must say that working with Rodney have been one of the most rewarding experiences I ever had in my career, he pushes the limit of every project and every person up to their best, stimulating the true potential of every artist.
Technically, Rodney is one of the most talented artists I’ve had the privilege to work with. His expertise spans character rigging, visual effects, hair, fur, cloth simulation, and compositing.
It has been rewarding to watch Rodney grow from one of my students into a colleague whose expertise I regularly rely upon. If I need help with VFX, production pipelines, or complex character rigging, Rodney is one of the first people I turn to.
His attention to detail, critiques, and his passion for our success are traits that separate Rodney from other educators. To this day as a PhD researcher and a scientist that wants to learn more about the artistic side of the VFX industry, I know that I can go to Rodney whenever I have questions.
Rodney brings a wealth of experience and insight from the entertainment industry into the classroom. He is approachable, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping his students grow.
On a personal level, Rodney was one of the people who inspired and motivated me to pursue a career as a professor. Many of the teaching approaches and classroom management strategies I use today were influenced by what I learned while working with him.
He encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity, creating a learning environment where students feel motivated to learn and grow. His guidance on my projects provided valuable insights, and his ability to make challenging goals feel achievable gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward.
